Why I have a sprue of Napoleonic French Cavalry Riders (Perry Miniatures) is anyone’s guess, but here they are! But today, they came in very handy. I found this fantastic little dinosaur, and as I don’t have any ponies for these fellows to ride, it would have to do!
I freed the rider from the sprue and glued him to the saddle, which I fashioned from good old sprue goo (not forgetting the girth, of course!). To finish off the look, I added the reigns and based them both on a 25mm base.

After a lick of paint, this fearsome fellow was complete. And I can’t stop thinking that if Napoleon had some of these at Waterloo, the outcome could have been very different!

There were four riders on the sprue, so I’ll have to do something with the other ones. But for now, this will have to be put on the back burner!

Wooden Horse
As it did turn out, I got overally enthusiastic and quickly kitbashed the other three minis! I thought for a bit about what other things these soldiers could mount, and the first thing I came up with was a wooden horse!

Grabbing a few bits of sprue and a base, I constructed the horse and glued its rider to it.

Elephant
Next, I found this tiny elephant while going through the “messy drawer” (every house has one!). So I stuck it on a base and gave him a lovely cushion made from sprue goo. I glued the rider on top and finished off by giving him some reigns.

Piggyback
While looking at some of my unfinished minis, I found this Iron Age Warrior from Warlord Games. He seems unnaturally bent over, but perfect for my little plan. I glued the rider onto his back, then gave his spear a little upgrade to a rifle!

I don’t see any of these minis being used in any battles, but you never know. Stranger things have happened!

If you missed it? Here’s where I gave some upgraded headwear to a couple of Iron Age warriors: QUICKIES – Iron Age Helmets – Use The Sprue
