Renedra Timber Hut - One Becomes Three
Renedra Timber Hut

I recently purchased another excellent timber hut from Renedra. The extra bonus is that it comes on two sprues, which gives us plenty of scope to construct many things.

I’ve built one of these before, click the link to see what I did: Renedra Wattle – Timber Outbuilding – Use The Sprue. This time though, I think I’ll see how many other buildings I can make from the sprues.

I started by copying the dimensions of the original hut and constructing a timber frame. This could be used as a structure that is nearing completion. I added a few wooden planks to bulk it out a bit, and that’s the first sprue all used up.

I put aside all the shavings and unusable bits of the sprue as I go, so I can plop them into a jar of acetone to make some sprue goo. I’ll find a good use for it later.

Grabbing the second frame, I wanted to make a complete building. So this time I took inspiration from “Grubenhäuser” (Grub Hut), which seemed to me to need less plastic to make.

First, I made both triangular sides of the hut, then, with all the leftover bits of sprue, chopped them up and added them to my sprue goo jar. Once gooified, I rolled out a sizable piece and left it to dry. This made a perfect piece of thatch to add to one side of the building. Once dry, I trimmed it to size and made another.

After glueing them both to the frame, I finished off by adding a final finial to the top, and the whole project was ready for painting.

I tried to keep the paint scheme similar to the first project I did. This should allow them to fit nicely when placed next to each other.

I find it fantastic that you can add value to any mini you buy by simply using the sprue rather than throwing it away. Now I have three more buildings to “play with!”. And when added to my previous build, I’ve got a lovely little mediaeval village!
