Giant Stone Dude

I challenged myself to create the biggest mini I’ve made so far! So I grabbed a sprue and thought about what to make. The answer was staring me in the face! My “Stone Dude” was right in front of me, looking up from the desk. (SPRUE DUDE no10: Stone Dude! – Use The Sprue)

I set about chopping up the sprue and gluing various bits together to form each boulder.I tried to keep the overall look of the first one while at the same time upscaling it.

After making the main torso, I started on the head. I glued six pieces of sprue together, then carved it into a basic head shape. I then cut a slot for his mouth and drilled two holes for his eyes. Next, I attached a nose and eyebrows to complete the look.

When I put the head on the rest of the body, the mini just looked a little thin and weedy. So I buffed him up by adding extra lengths of sprue, which packed him out a lot! Having no bases other than 25mm round ones, that is what I put him on.

I still had quite a bit of sprue leftover, so I made another one. This time, it is the same size as the original one I made. Even when this one was done, I still had enough left to make another smaller version!

The Paint Job

Painting them was incredibly easy. I first primed them in black, then gave them a heavy dry brush with grey before a final white highlight.

The “Giant” stands at an impressive 50mm tall, towering over all the other dudes I’ve made so far! These minis are awesome, and did you know that the smaller a “Stone Dude” is, the older they are? That’s what millions of years of erosion will do to you!
