Warhammer Yahtzee (not really!) - Project 1

This is the start of a new series where I take old board games and use their components to create some cool stuff for miniature wargames.

For the first blog, I’ve chosen the classic Yahtzee. I bought this 2nd hand copy for an almighty 50p! The dice are brilliant looking, (of course there was one missing), but it did come with this awfully loud dice cup. This is what I’m going to use.

To me, it looks like something the Necrons would make, so I set about converting it. First, I took some thin plastic (from an insert of a board game!) and glued it onto the cup to cover the Yahtzee lettering. Next, I simply cut up suitable bits of sprue and glued them all over. Maybe one side could be a control panel and the other just aesthetic?

Painting

Over a nice black undercoat, I lightly dry brushed a layer of silver, being careful to leave quite a lot of black showing through. Then I picked out certain areas and added more metallic paint to them. Obviously, the thing needed green on it, so I filled in the lower regions, which were conveniently around the edges. I then added a little texture to make them glow.

To finish it off, I freehanded various pieces of symbolism on the “control panel screen”.

I’m really happy with how this turned out, and I look forward to creating more terrain like this in the future!
