Gaslands terrain The Race Begins!

I’ve set myself a challenge to make as much terrain for Gaslands from a single sprue as possible. This time I selected an Epic Pike & Shot sprue from Warlord Games which had plenty of 15mm Cavalry minis on (one day I’ll make a game for these!). I chose this sprue as it had mostly straight bits on, perfect for building square terrain.

Start Finish Line

Obviously the first thing you need when playing Gaslands is somewhere to start. To do this I chopped off both narrow ends of the sprue making sure they were high enough for vehicles to safely pass under. I tidied up most of the sticking out bits and set about attaching them together with a few off cuts. Finally I stuck the pillars down on some old square 20mm bases and the first stage was complete.

Gates

Next were the gates. I decided to make these nice and simple. A straight piece of sprue glued to a round base. Then with a wooden coffee stirrer I forged some numbers. Not the most elegant of builds but they were quick to do and are easy to understand.

Billboards

Now for some billboards and a tiny bit of self promotion (see below!). I constructed two, making sure that I didn’t go overboard on their size. I used wooden ice-lolly sticks for the backs so I could try and stretch out the sprue a little further.

Crash Barrier

Still having some plastic leftovers I made two crash barriers. They wouldn’t stand up very well so I glued them together into making a kind of chevron. It still looked boring so I decided to stick an old BMW onto it, much better!

Fencing

With only a few offcuts left I decided to make two more obstacles in the form of wooden fences. Slicing a couple of coffee stirrers in half and using the last bits of sprue as uprights and that’s it.

After basing the gates with sand I glued some metal washers to them and the whole Gaslands Terrain was complete!

Painting and The Race Begins!

Wasting no time on painting these things, I simply base coated them in silver and gave them a rusty look by dabbing brown then orange sparingly over them. I made sure I used some vivid colours for the numbers of the gates to make them stand out a little more.

Then I designed a couple of adverts to go on the billboards to finish those off. I’m quite happy to see from a single sprue you can create a fun starting point for your Gaslands Games!
